How many of these types of books do you think are sold every day?
And as a second thought:
How many of these books would someone have to buy before they realized they’re all garbage?
2000
2008
2012
etc. etc.
They can be very profitable, indeed. You’d think that people would’ve gotten a clue after Y2K, but no. There are people who got seriously rich off of hustling Y2K paranoia, and they’re probably right there ready to cash in on 2012, too. Rapture propaganda (such as the "Left Behind" series) has been a cash cow for years. The chances of marketing such things climbs even higher if the author is smart enough to add a few juicy conspiracy theories into the mix.

In the next few days I am posting a brand new website that will primarly feature photography of a particular Canadian province. I am also planning to publish at least one photography poster featuring my work. With these elements in mind, is there a particular SEO tool that I really should work with(?) or is there a set of tools that are considered the absolute best and most valuable?
Sprank was too harsh regarding SEO.
Well SEO is one of the best and cost effective things which you can do with your business and gain lots & lots of popularity.
First step you should do is to look out for keywords using the following tool: https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal
Search for keywords and you will also find some similar words related to your keywords. Decide on keywords which are most related to your business and do the following activities:
Social Bookmarking – It means bookmarking your website on various Social Bookmarking websites like digg.com, delicious.com, jamespot.com, fanpop.com etc.
Question & Answers websites. Answers questions related to your business and get visitors to visit your website. There are many Q & A websites like Yahoo Answers, Blurtit.com, answerbag.com. yedda.com etc.
Above two will help you get referral traffic and some dofollow links from bookmarking websites will also help you in increasing website popularity.

What kind of sick "goal setting" is this?
Yahoo: Dining Out > General – Dining Out
It’s a nice way of saying he wants you to fondle the banana that’s hanging in his pants.

I’ve been using google keywords tool and have got some good keywords-i think
How do i choose a keyword? (obviously it’s got to b relevent to the site)but how do i choose a good keyword?
How difficult is it to get to the first page of google?
Can i use a hundred keywords?
Is there anything else you think i might not/need to know?
NO spam please.
Jell, I’ve seen you ask loads of Q’s about your online business, so you’re obviously going for this. With your permission, I’m able to send you a link to a book which will answer all your Q’s about optimisation. Also, I reccommend that you google web ceo. This is a respected SEO company who will provide you with a free download of optimisation tools plus a free online university course in seo. It is something you can do alongside your current plans, but well worth it.
Although you will be invited to upgrade your optimisation tools, you will probably never need to, and you will not be spammed, it’s a respectable programme. Only thing to watch out for is as it submits your site to loads of search engines, these search engines email you for confirmation, so use a ’spare’ email account. Just mail me or add details if you want this book, it’s worth it.

Or are they regarded as a separate entity?
The reason I ask is because I have some keywords in my description meta that I couldn’t work in with the body text, but I need them so that I can use them in my keywords meta. I hear that the keywords meta cannot include words that are not already among the keywords that you’re already using within the body.
Having keywords in your description tag that do not appear in body text is fine as long as you are not spamming words. The Description METATAG has historically been used by engines in at least two ways.
1) To display the blurb with the search result, otherwise it will look to other sources, perhaps may even generate from body text.
2) As keyword weighting and/or relevancy check. This is less used now adays, but the rules are ever changing.
In short, put a good relevant description with the top few keywords from your page, don’t sweat some fringe words. On the other hand if they are important Keywords they need to be in your content.
If you are misspoken and were referring to the META Keywords tag, then placing non related Keywords is probably not harmful, since they are not used anymore for positive benefit, but using them wrong (Spamming) could count against you. Either use it as you are supposed to with a list of strong keywords that are relevant, or leave out altogether.
We have a tutorial on our site on Metatags at http://www.ucanseo.com/OnPageSEO/METATAGS.aspx
Good Luck
